Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The Ordinary General Assembly of Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) on Sunday, January 22, approved Alice Umulinga as acting president until the end of the Olympic quadrennial period in May 2025.<\/p>\n

Umulinga takes office two months after former president Theogene Uwayo resigned from the position in November 2022 as a result of failing to have a common vision with some members on the executive committee.<\/p>\n

The former Karate governing body boss had issues with the executive committee amid a saga inside the RNOSC house that saw two RNOSC employees arrested, suspecting them of forgery and making decisions based on favoritism, friendship or nepotism.<\/p>\n

The employees in question, Jean-Jacques Mugisha, the head of Rwanda’s mission to the Commonwealth Games, and Jean de Dieu Mukundiyukuri, the Executive Director at RNOSC, were reported to have obtained travel documents for seven people who were not meant to be part of the delegation that traveled to Birmingham for the Commonwealth games in July.<\/p>\n

They, however, pleaded not guilty and were released as a result, although they haven\u2019t returned to office.<\/p>\n

A former player of the National Women’s volleyball team and Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC), Umulinga has been serving as RNOSC\u2019s first vice-President since May 2021 until approved to assume the office as acting president.<\/p>\n
