Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Carlos Ferrer\u2019s future as head coach of Rwanda\u2019s national team Amavubi remains uncertain with close to two months only remaining on his contract.<\/p>\n

Ferrer, 48, was appointed Amavubi head coach in March last year after signing a one-year deal. He replaced Vincent Mashami after his contract expired in February 2022.<\/p>\n

The Spanish confirmed to Times Sport that he met with Rwanda\u2019s football governing body and held talks over a new deal but his employers have not decided yet about extending his stay.<\/p>\n

“We are in discussions, both sides are in good direction but, at the moment, no news about it” Ferrer told Times Sport.<\/p>\n

“First I have to find agreement with Ferwafa about extending my contract and, as I always say, I will never be a problem for Rwanda. So in few days we need to know what is exactly the situation,” he added<\/p>\n

Ferrer\u2019s contract situation comes at the time Rwanda prepare to host Benin during game three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers slated for March 28 at Huye Stadium.<\/p>\n

Amavubi, who have not won a single game in the last two fixtures, will be looking to make the most of home advantage but Ferrer\u2019s focus on his future could affect the national team\u2019s ambitions.<\/p>\n

Rwanda is pooled in Group L of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers alongside defending champions Senegal, Mozambique, and Benin and qualifying the country to next year\u2019s edition Cote d\u2019Ivoire remains Ferrer\u2019s priority.<\/p>\n

The top two teams from each of the 12 groups will qualify for Africa’s biggest tournament.<\/p>\n
