Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The Rwandan Tennis Federation will hold the fith edition of the Tennis Genocide Memorial tournament as part of the federation\u2019s activities to honour sportsmen and women killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n

The weeklong tennis event will be held at Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club located at IPRC-Kigali from May 1-5.<\/p>\n

The annual tournament will attract about 120 tennis players, males and females, who will be competing in three categories namely amateur, professionals and Wheelchair tennis.<\/p>\n

During the tournament, the federation will take a special occasion to remember and honor former tennis players killed during the genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n

Among some of the teams who will participate in the Tennis Genocide Memorial tournament include CIMERWA Tennis Club, Cercle Sportif de Kigali, Kicukiro Ecology Tennis Club, Amahoro Tennis Club, Cercle Sportif de Butare, Nyanza Tennis Club, Ibirunga Tennis Club, Nyarutarama Tennis Club and Kanombe Tennis Club.<\/p>\n

The players will be looking to dethrone tournament\u2019s reigning champions Etienne Niyigena and Joselyne Umulisa who won last year\u2019s edition in male and female categories respectively.<\/p>\n

Niyigena beat Matayo Uwizeyimana 2-0 (6-0, 6-4) to clinch the male professionals category while Umulisa defeated Megane Ingabire 6-2, 6-3 to win the women\u2019s professionals title.<\/p>\n
