Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>SC Kiyovu assistant coach Jean de Dieu Mateso still believes his side can\u2019t get their hands off the Primus National League until the last day of the season.<\/p>\n

SC Kiyovu suffered a 1-0 shock defeat to Sunrise on Sunday at Nyagatare Stadium and hence dropped to second place on the table with 60 points, trailing table leaders APR who have a superior goal difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s absurd that we lost this game despite putting on a good display and missing the penalty. We should at least have got a draw but it was not our day and, like someone who played football, I believe anything can happen on the last day,\u201d said Mateso.<\/p>\n

“We can still win the title and compete for the continental tournament next season. We played a good game and lost due to a stupid mistake. It was a reckless mistake that cost us but let’s keep dreaming and fight until the end.”<\/p>\n

After decades of struggles, and a near-relegation 2016\/17 season, the Green Baggies seem to have put their worst days behind them and have been competing for the title for the last two seasons.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s title slip at the hands of Sunrise was a carbon copy paste of the result the same side suffered against Espoir in Rusizi last season, a result that cost them the title, trailing champions APR by one point.<\/p>\n

They are now on the brink of losing the title to the army side on goal difference with the pair looking likely to end the campaign level on points.<\/p>\n

Only miraculous results in the final league game can save Kiyovu\u2019s season and end their 30-year title jinx in style.<\/p>\n

Mateso\u2019s men will need to beat Rutsiro FC on Sunday at Kigali Pele Stadium and pray that Gorilla FC can force a draw or victory against APR. Otherwise, the army side is destined to lift the trophy in Bugesera.<\/p>\n
