Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The Rwandan Community in Uganda, friends of Rwanda, and members of the Diplomatic Corps in Uganda on July 7 joined the Rwandan High Commissioner in Uganda, Joseph Rutabana, at his residence in Kololo, Kampala, to celebrate the 29th anniversary of Rwanda\u2019s liberation.<\/p>\n

Under the theme, together we prosper, the evening was full of joy as Rwandans and friends of Rwanda mused over the past, how far they have come, and how much has been achieved under the visionary leadership of President Paul Kagame.<\/p>\n

The celebrations also marked the end of the 100-day period of commemorating the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda when the RPA rebel army stopped the genocide and liberated the country from the bad regime that had caused turmoil.<\/p>\n

Rutabana gave a brief history of Rwanda\u2019s liberation journey \u2013 from colonial times to 1962. He explained how discrimination and bad governance did not stop after independence but continued and culminated into the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n

It took the RPA, led by President Paul Kagame, to end the genocide and set the country on the path it is now on.<\/p>\n

Celebrating 29 years of liberation is a fruition of the efforts of the young men and women of the RPA, and friends of Rwanda, who fought with bravery to liberate the country from the bad regime at the time, the envoy noted.<\/p>\n

Rutabana reiterated the cordial bilateral relations today and pledged Rwanda\u2019s commitment to good bilateral relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The guest of honour, Uganda\u2019s Minister of State for Trade Industry and Cooperatives, Harriet Ntabbazi, congratulated Rwandans on the occasion of the 29th Liberation Day. She also thanked the visionary leadership of Rwanda that has brought the country to the world stage after the tragic 1994 genocide.<\/p>\n

The Minister thanked Rwandans for being hard-working and ensuring that the country prospers.<\/p>\n

Ntabaazi also thanked the governments of Uganda and Rwanda for the good relations which have boosted trade, especially across the border communities. She pledged Uganda\u2019s commitment to continued good relations and congratulated Rwanda on the 29 years transformative journey.<\/p>\n
