Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Alberto Antuna has resigned from his position as the head coach of the Gazelles of Uganda after 10 months of service.<\/p>\n

The announcement came as a surprise to many, especially after Antuna’s successful tenure with the team.<\/p>\n

In a farewell message that he posted on his official X account, the Spanish shared his heartfelt sentiments and said, “It’s time to say goodbye.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing part of ‘The Gazelles’ in such a short span has deeply enriched my experience as a coach; we made history together. I am sure it’s not goodbye, but until next time, UG,” he added.<\/p>\n

Antuna took up the mantle as the Gazelles’ head coach in January 2023. Under his leadership, the team secured a second-place finish in the FIBA Zone V Afrobasket 2023 qualifiers, narrowly losing the final 64-74 to Egypt.<\/p>\n

Although the Gazelles only entered the Afrobasket tournament through a wild card, their performance was nothing short of impressive.<\/p>\n

They secured victories against notable teams, including the eleven-time African champions Senegal, as well as DR. Congo and Guinea. Their journey in the competition ended in the quarterfinal after losing to Rwanda.<\/p>\n

Securing three wins in the Afrobasket and achieving a seventh-place finish marked a significant milestone for the Gazelles. FUBA has already started the search of a worthy successor to Antuna.<\/p>\n
