Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Saturday<\/p>\n Nile Legends 30-84 JKL Lady<\/p>\n REG 89-38 JKT Stars<\/p>\n Rwanda representative REG Women kicked off their 2023 FIBA Zone V Women\u2019s Championship campaign on a high, routing Tanzania\u2019s JKT Stars 89-38 in the first Group B game at Lyce\u0301e de Kigali Gymnasium on Saturday night.<\/p>\n Power forward Betty Kalanga led the charge for the home team, scoring a game high 23 points while American shooting guard Jennings Chelsea contributed 18 points.<\/p>\n Esperance Mukaneza\u2019s team started the first quarter in good form, with a 26-11 led, and the ladies never looked back as they went on to win the remaining three in a commanding style.<\/p>\n REG return to action on Monday, October 30, against Nile Legends of South Sudan in Group B.<\/p>\n In the tournament opening game, KL Lady from Uganda were handed a rude welcome, losing 84-30 to Nile Legends of South Sudan.<\/p>\n FIBA Africa Zone V Women\u2019s Championship has attracted nine clubs from six countries. The teams were pooled in two groups.<\/p>\n APR was drawn in Group A, alongside Equity Bank (Kenya), Vijana Queens (Tanzania) and Gladiators (Burundi) while REG found themselves in Group B with KPA (Kenya), JKT Stars (Tanzania), Nile Legends (South Sudan) and JKL Lady (Uganda).<\/p>\n APR begin their campaign on Sunday, October 29, against Burundian Gladiators.<\/p>\n Competition System<\/p>\n Clubs are pooled in two groups. Group A has four teams, while B has five teams. The teams in each group will play among themselves, and the top four will proceed to the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n The four teams that win their quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals where the winners will advance to the finals to vie for the trophy, while the losers will play a third-place game.<\/p>\n The champions, the first and second runners-up will book tickets for the continental women\u2019s competition in Egypt.<\/p>\n\r\n
