Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The 2023 East African Community Games (EACoG), which were scheduled to take place in Rwanda from February 1-10, have been postponed.<\/p>\n

Rwanda was given rights to hosts the Games but Clementine Mukeka, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs\u2019 Permanent Secretary, informed EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki that the postponement was due to \u2018unforeseen circumstances\u2019.<\/p>\n

“I am writing to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances, the 2nd edition of the East African Community Games, originally scheduled for February 1-10, 2024, in Kigali, Rwanda, is postponed,” a letter, signed by Mukeka, reads.<\/p>\n

EACoG is a regional sports initiative that was established by the 20th EAC Council of Ministers. Their decision directed the Secretariat to organize regular sports tournaments in collaboration with the private sector, civil society, voluntary organizations, institutions, individuals, and development partners.<\/p>\n

The Games encompass various sports disciplines, including athletics, football, handball, basketball, netball, volleyball, tennis, rugby, judo, karate, boxing, and taekwondo.<\/p>\n

Rwanda was among five countries that had confirmed their participation in the Games, alongside Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Burundi.<\/p>\n

National teams were informed about the postponement and were asked to return home on Saturday, just 24 hours after joining the residential camp on Friday.<\/p>\n
