Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Preparations for the second edition of the wheelchair basketball tournament, slated for March 2 at BK Arena, are in final stages, said event organizer Meshack Rwampungu.<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201cSports on Wheels\u201d, the event will, among other benefits, redefine the narrative of inclusivity, proving that disability is not an obstacle but a unique strength.<\/p>\n

Rwampungu told Times Sports said that the second edition of the event will go beyond the game and feature performances by able-bodied players and celebrities.<\/p>\n

Some celebrities expected to grace the event include APR star players Adonis Filer, Michael Dixon and Jean-Jacques Wilson Nshobozwabyosenumukiza, and Kepler\u2019s Aristide Mugabe, DJ Ira and Nep DJs among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is set for this special day to go as planned and make a huge impact on our society. The tournament will serve as a call to action, urging society to reevaluate preconceived notions and to actively work towards creating an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued,\u201d Rwampungu said.<\/p>\n

The national wheelchair basketball team skipper emphasized that Sports on Wheel also intends to create awareness that disability is not a limit but a unique vantage point, and together, through sports and community, the society can shoot for a future that embraces the strength found in diversity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the spirit of inclusivity, let us rally behind the message that disability is not inability, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to shine, both on and off the court,\u201d said Rwampungu.<\/p>\n

Rwampungu is a resilient individual whose journey took a bumpy turn on March 2, 2015, after experiencing an accident whose permanent injuries he sustains.<\/p>\n

Wheelchair-bound since that life-altering day, Rwampungu has transformed his experience into a catalyst for positive change, dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities.<\/p>\n

The first edition, held in 2023, ended in Team Meshack\u2019s favor, after edging Team Nshozwa 33-21.<\/p>\n

The event features wheelchair basketball matches, a visual representation of unity where individuals with disabilities and star able-bodied players will join forces on the court.<\/p>\n

Beyond just the matches, the initiative is extended to engraining the message of inclusivity in the community.<\/p>\n

Admission to the venue is Rwf 3,000 for lower bowl, CIP Rwf5,000 and Rwf 10, 000 for courtside.<\/p>\n
