Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Angola has been confirmed as hosts of the men’s basketball continental championship, Afrobasket, scheduled to take place in August 2025.<\/p>\n

Angola beat Morocco and Egypt who were also in the running to host the continent\u2019s most prestigious senior men\u2019s basketball tournament.<\/p>\n

Confirming the Afrobasket 2025 hosts, FIBA-Africa president Ani\u0301bal Manave said that Angola has all the conditions to host the continental competition.<\/p>\n

Afrobasket returns to Angola for the first time since 2007 and the fourth time overall having previously hosted it three times (1989, 1999 and 2007). The Angolans won the championship every occasion they host the tournament.<\/p>\n

The 2025 Afrobasket will bring together 16 of the best African teams.<\/p>\n

In December 2023, Rwanda was pooled in the same group as Senegal and Cameroon for qualifiers to the 2025 Afrobasket.<\/p>\n

The qualifying games will feature five groups of four teams each.<\/p>\n

Senegal promises to be arguably Rwanda\u2019s toughest opponent, having finished on the podium of the 2021 Afrobasket with a bronze.<\/p>\n

In the same competition, Cameroon did not make it out of the group stages.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Group A brings together South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Mali, and a yet to be confirmed winner of the pre-qualifiers in Zone 6.<\/p>\n

Cape Verde, who finished fourth in the 2021 AfroBasket held in Kigali, were placed in Group B that also features Nigeria, Uganda and the team that will win the pre-qualifiers between Zone 1 and 2.<\/p>\n

Afrobasket 2021 finalists Cote d’Ivoire found themselves in Group D alongside Zone 5 powerhouses Egypt, Central African Republic, and the winner of the pre-qualifiers between Zone 5, Madagascar and Djibouti.<\/p>\n

Title holders Tunisia were pitted against Angola who finished fifth in 2021, Guinea and Kenya in Group E.<\/p>\n
