Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The Rotary International president, Gordon McInally, is expected in Rwanda Thursday looking to strengthen the relationship between the Government of Rwanda and Rotary International.<\/p>\n

McInally’s three-day working visit to Rwanda, from March 21-23, aligns with Rotary International’s core values, notably its commitment to “Service above Self” under its fundamental principles, according to a statement from the global organisation.<\/p>\n

During his time in Rwanda, McInally is expected to visit various places, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, this coming ahead of the 30th Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in April.<\/p>\n

He is also expected to tour various Rotary Rwanda projects and initiatives, such as the Kinyinya Rotary House for Cancer Patients, the Kigali Public Library, the Rotary Peace Project in Bugesera, and the Akagera National Park.<\/p>\n

He will also engage in te\u0302te-a\u0300-te\u0302te meetings with key leaders in the health and education sectors, according to the statement.<\/p>\n

Rotary International’s statement highlights the organisation’s growth in Rwanda, listing the creation of two rotary clubs, one rotaract club, and two interact clubs in the first quarter of 2024 alone among the latest developments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 12 rotary clubs in Rwanda have spearheaded and financed key development projects amounting to more than USD 3.5 million,\u201d reads part of the statement.<\/p>\n

The statement also emphasises Rotary Rwanda’s contributions toward eradicating polio, with Rwanda being polio-free for the past 30 years.<\/p>\n

A leading advocate in the global campaign to eradicate polio, Rotary International says it works closely with the World Health Organization and boasts over 1.4 million members, leaders, and solution-seekers worldwide.<\/p>\n

The statement indicates that Rwanda’s Rotary membership stands out as one of the fastest-growing in District 9150, which comprises 100 clubs across ten countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, DR Congo, Sao Tome and Principe, and Rwanda.<\/p>\n

This marks the third time Rwanda has been selected for a Rotary Presidential Visit, following the visits of Rotary International President K.R. Ravindran in 2016, and Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta in June 2022.<\/p>\n
