Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>In a solemn commemoration event held at Kigali Genocide Memorial on Thursday, April 18, staff members and management of Guaranty Trust Bank (Rwanda) plc paid homage to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n

Bank officials emphasised the institution’s commitment to supporting Rwanda’s development and fostering unity and reconciliation in the country through internal and external initiatives that shape the Bank’s operations.<\/p>\n

The event began with a tour of the memorial site, where Bank executives and staff members learnt about the history of the atrocities committed during the Genocide against the Tutsi and acknowledged the efforts that halted it.<\/p>\n

They laid wreaths on mass graves containing the remains of over 250,000 victims, paying respects to both the victims and survivors.<\/p>\n

Irenosen B. Ohiwerei, Chief Operating Officer of GTBank (Rwanda) plc, emphasised the significance of this commemoration, stating, “The 30th anniversary of the genocide holds profound importance for GTBank (Rwanda) plc as we reflect on the past and honor the memories of our loved ones. It is also a time to reaffirm our commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous future for all Rwandans.”<\/p>\n

In alignment with their dedication to Rwanda’s development, GTBank (Rwanda) plc is partnering with local organisations and institutions to support projects promoting unity, reconciliation, and healing in communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bank extends a message of remembrance, unity, and hope to Customers and all Rwandans during this commemorative period, encouraging reflection on the past and collective efforts towards a brighter future,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

GTBank (Rwanda) plc, with its roots tracing back to the establishment of BACAR Bank in 1983, has been impacted by the tragic events of the genocide, with staff members of BACAR among those killed.<\/p>\n

The event concluded with a collective commitment to honor the memories of those lost, preserve their legacies, and stand united in building a peaceful and prosperous Rwanda for future generations.<\/p>\n
