Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Sugar prices declined to an average Rwf1500 per kilo in the City of Kigali in the beginning of the week, marking a general decline from up to Rwf2,000 per kilo last week, it emerges.<\/p>\n

During a visit to Kimironko, Remera and Nyarugenge city markets, on Wednesday, June 5, The New Times heard that sugar prices had changed significantly in the past few days, as more sugar was available on the market.<\/p>\n

“The prices have dropped overall, regardless of the type of sugar. Within just one week, the cost of a 25-kilogram package decreased from Rwf60,000 to Rwf57,000, which came as a surprise to many. Customers are pleased with the decrease in price,\u201d said Vicent Nshimiyimana, a vender in Kimironko Market.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough there hasn’t been a significant change in the number of clients buying sugar, there has been a slight change in consumption patterns.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThe consumption is picking up slightly, and our stock is depleting a bit faster than usual,\u201d observed Jane Abatoni, a vendor in Nyarugenge market.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cHowever, some customers are still voicing concerns about the high prices. They would prefer it if prices could drop a bit further.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grace Mbabazi, a baker in Remera said that the decrease in sugar prices has been good for business.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cWith lower costs of production, I can now produce more flour-based baked goods such as bread, cookies, and cakes, at a more competitive price. Sugar is one of the main products I need to produce my products.\u201d<\/p>\n
