Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Alphonse Nkubana was elected as the new spokesperson for the National Consultative Forum of Political Organisations (NFPO), and Clementine Uwitije as his deputy, on September 19.<\/p>\n

Both leaders will serve a six-month mandate.<\/p>\n

Nkubana is a member of the Prosperity and Solidarity Party (PSP) while Uwitije comes from the Rwandan Socialist Party (PSR).<\/p>\n

The election, held at the forum’s headquarters in Kacyiru, involved 44 voters representing 11 political parties operating in the country.<\/p>\n

Nkubana takes over from Abbas Mukama of the Ideal Democratic Party (PDI), and Uwitije replaces Beline Uwineza who is from RPF-Inkotanyi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a plot of land in Gahanga, which we have had for 15 years with the intention of building an office. We ask the newly appointed leaders to work closely with relevant officials to finally see this project through. Renting office space is costly for the government,\u201d said Mukama.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring our time in leadership, a lot was accomplished, including the presidential and parliamentary elections that went smoothly. But there are still things that remain unfinished, and these will now be handled by the new leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nkubana said: “Our forum\u2019s main goal is to bring together political ideas and contribute to the country’s development. One of our key aims is to mobilise the youth, teaching them about political ideologies and the country\u2019s history. Many young people were born after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and it’s crucial that we focus on engaging them, as well as women, in political matters. These are areas we will prioritise during our term.\u201d<\/p>\n
