Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Rwanda FA president Alphonse Munyantwali is in no rush to determine the future of Amavubi coach Torsten Spittler whose existing contract nears expiration.<\/p>\n

The German coach has been at the helm of Amavubi since November 2023 but, with just three months left on his deal, no approach on potential contract extension has been made yet despite Amavubi impressive performances under his tutelage.<\/p>\n

However, Munyanwali insists there is a bit of time left to discuss Spittler\u2019s future and hopes that he will continue to oversee Amavubi project.<\/p>\n

“We shall talk and, possibly, there are chances that he could stay,” Munyantwali told the press in Abidjan where he is leading Amavubi contingent for Benin qualifier.<\/p>\n

“I think there is still time (to look into it); there are three months left on his contract which is a quarter of his contract duration. We shall hold talks with him soon, the period left (on his contract) is short but it has not finished yet. We will discuss with him, and evaluate his performance and look at what to do moving forward,” he added.<\/p>\n

Spittler sacarstically stated that he would retire when his contract with Amavubi expires, but Munyantwali emphasized that the coach has not told them anything yet regarding his retirement.<\/p>\n

“Maybe he said it, but he has not told us anything yet…that he won\u2019t return (when his deal expires),” he added<\/p>\n

Spittler has transformed Amavubi into a fearsome force since taking over on November 1, 2023. Of the eight games that Rwanda played, he has won three, drew four, and lost only once while the team conceded just two goals.<\/p>\n

Under his tutelage, Rwanda leads Group C in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, well ahead of African elite football nations like Nigeria and AFCON 2023 semifinalist South Africa.<\/p>\n
