Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>The Institute of Applied Science (INES-Ruhengeri) held its 16th graduation ceremony on October 24, awarding degrees to 892 graduates across 15 departments, including engineering, accounting, management, land surveying, and computer programming.<\/p>\n

Among the graduates, 407 were female and 485 were male, with 56 international students, highlighting INES-Ruhengeri\u2019s efforts to internationalise its education.<\/p>\n

Themed \u201cShifting from Paper to Product\u201d, the graduation brought together students from nine countries across Africa, demonstrating the institute\u2019s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.<\/p>\n

Dr Jean-Bosco Baribeshya, Vice Chancellor of INES-Ruhengeri, noted that graduation ceremonies in Rwanda have become a significant and celebrated event within society, highlighting the important role that education plays in shaping not just knowledge but also personalities, friendships, and careers.<\/p>\n

\u201cGraduating is one of those life moments that can be pretty emotional. Going to school plays a huge role in shaping not only our education but also our personalities, friendships, and careers, so it makes sense for the experience to feel bittersweet; as Nelson Mandela said in one context. It always seems impossible until you start,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Baribeshya encouraged graduates to view their time at the university as a transitional phase filled with both challenges and opportunities.<\/p>\n

Bishop Vincent Harolimana, legal representative and chancellor, reminded the graduates that their studies were not just about reaching this day but about shaping their lives and contributing to the development of their country.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must remain true to the purpose that brought you here and use it in your daily life where you\u2019re going next; you have to do everything to keep building the country and be useful in society,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the institute\u2019s expansion, noting that INES now offers new programmes, including health sciences, engineering technology, and Master\u2019s programmes, reflecting its commitment to evolving educational needs.<\/p>\n

In his keynote address, Mark Rugenera, Director General of Radiant, congratulated the new graduates but emphasised the importance of becoming entrepreneurs rather than job seekers.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that while studying is challenging, entering the workforce presents its own difficulties, urging the new graduates to practice discipline, avoid procrastination, and not rely solely on the government for employment.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have received your degree today, but the real struggle begins now. You must recognise that you don\u2019t know everything and commit to learning every day. As you go out there, I encourage you to start creating jobs and opportunities for others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, top-performing students were recognised for their outstanding achievements, with support from 25 sponsors, including Bank of Kigali, Equity Bank, BPR, La Palme Hotel, and more. These awards showcased the strong partnership between INES-Ruhengeri and key industry stakeholders, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for their careers ahead.<\/p>\n

INES-Ruhengeri alumni representative, Cynthia Yankurije, extended her congratulations to the class of 2023-2024, reminding them that they stand at a pivotal moment where their hard work converges with new beginnings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis day signifies years of dedication and sacrifice from your peers, mentors, and lecturers, and you must maintain these relationships as they create a supportive network that fosters lifelong learning and growth,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

Yankurije emphasised the importance of the connections formed during their time at the university, urging them to embrace the opportunities ahead and look towards the future with excitement and purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are equipped with the skills and the drive to change the world,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

One of the graduates, Mohamed Meinaou Maradam, noted the crucial support they received from families and friends throughout their academic journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday marks not just an end, but a new beginning filled with opportunities. Our shared experiences have shaped us, and the skills we\u2019ve gained at INES-Ruhengeri will empower us to make a difference in the world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
