Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women’s basketball club will be looking to maintain their unbeaten campaign when they return to action on Thursday, October 31, in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Women’s Basketball League-Africa (WBL-Africa) Zone 5 Qualifiers.<\/p>\n

The 2023 Zone 5 silver medalists advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing at the summit of Group C with a perfect 3-0 record.<\/p>\n

Julian Martinez\u2019s ladies veered off a fry out approach in the group stages to claim an emphatic 86-34 victory against Gladiators of Burundi in the last group stage encounter on Tuesday, October 29.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, the mentality was just trying to execute the game plan. We knew that maybe the team was going to be a little less, not as talented as us, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t treat the game with the same respect,\u201d US-Kenyan hooper, Victoria Reynolds, said after the win in which she contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo our coach was just saying make sure that we try to play perfect, you know, on our plays, on our defense and everything,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Going into the quarter-finals, Reynolds maintained that her team is ready to do even better to propel their campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are always adjustments to be made, especially defensively,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we could have done better and made sure that our offense is clicking and the defence is locked in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenting about the team\u2019s chances of winning it all at Zone 5 championship, Reynolds said \u201cI believe we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

A total of eleven teams are contesting for two slots which are up for grabs for the African Women Basketball League (AWBL) finals which will take place in Dakar, Senegal in December.<\/p>\n

Rwanda\u2019s APR are drawn in Group B, with KPA (Kenya) and Hawassa City (Ethiopia) while REG are in Group C alongside Equity Bank (Kenya), Fox Divas (Tanzania) and Gladiators (Burundi).<\/p>\n
