Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>National basketball league side Tigers have completed the signing of former Patriots coach Henry Mwinuka on a two-year deal.<\/p>\n

Francis Shyaka, the club\u2019s president, confirmed the development on Thursday, December 26, in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a member of our team. We have concluded on all the due protocol, and there is a possibility for an extension,\u201d Shyaka told Times Sport.<\/p>\n

Mwinuka, whose coaching career in the domestic league spans nine years, has previously been at the summit of local powerhouse clubs including Patriots and REG.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining Tigers, he featured for Patriots BBC, despite the two failing to agree on terms of contract extension.<\/p>\n

In nine years, Mwinuka cemented his coaching career, helping the two teams to five championship titles, with Patriots bagging three and two for REG.<\/p>\n

Times Sport understands that the Tanzanian Tactician was also in talks with different clubs in the domestic league, with Tigers ending in his favor.<\/p>\n

Mwinuka, 49, will replace Oyugi Robert Mugabo who is the immediate former head coach.<\/p>\n

Mugabo powered Tigers to a relatively impressive run in the regular season, despite falling short before the Betpawa playoffs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to build a strong team; a team that can not only dominate on the local scene but at the regional level as well,\u201d Shyaka added.<\/p>\n

Mwinuka has previously been the assistant coach for the Rwanda national team in 2020 and later handled it on an interim basis for the AfroBasket qualifiers replacing Serbian tactician Vladimir Bosnjak who resigned the same year (2020).<\/p>\n

Before coming to Rwanda, in 2015, Mwinuka served as assistant coach of the Tanzania national team as well as head coach with Tanzanian side Savio BBC, and Kampala International University (KIU) basketball team.<\/p>\n
