Africa-Press – Rwanda. <\/strong><\/span>Nyayo National Stadium has been approved to host matches for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was satisfied with the state of the facility during an inspection tour conducted across Kenya\u2019s stadiums on Wednesday 8 January 2025.<\/p>\n

The CAF inspection team, led by Director of Competitions Samson Adamu, also visited Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu County, Police Sacco Stadium in South C, and Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata which will also be used as training grounds.<\/p>\n

The renovations at Kasarani Stadium are ongoing with the contractor working day and night in order to make the facility ready in time for CHAN 2024 finals.<\/p>\n

Kenya won the rights to co-host the continental tournament that is only designed for players playing in their national league competitions alongside neighbours Uganda and Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Uganda and Tanzania already had their stadiums approved by CAF while Kenya was falling short of standard facilities, prompting the government to close Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums for upgrading, as well as begin the construction of a brand new Talanta City.<\/p>\n

The installation of new floodlights at the stadium, as recommended by CAF, is also ongoing, with some of them already attached to the roofing structures even before the completion of the canopy.<\/p>\n

The installation of seats is also at advanced stages, with only a few areas in the lower and upper sections remaining. Unlike in the past, all the seats will have back rests.<\/p>\n

The public washrooms have also been renovated and ready for use by fans in the tournament.<\/p>\n

The draw for the CHAN 2024 will take place in Kenya on January 15.<\/p>\n
