Celles-ci forment alors de grosses gouttes qui, trop lourdes, tombent sous forme de pluie ou de neige.<\/p>\n<p>En mer, ces pre\u0301cipitations obe\u0301issent a\u0300 un cycle court et, en cas de vents violents, contribuent a\u0300 la formation de tempe\u0302tes. Elles se pre\u0301sentent parfois comme des flux d\u2019humidite\u0301 intenses s\u2019e\u0301coulant de fac\u0327on quasi line\u0301aire, notamment en hiver dans l\u2019he\u0301misphe\u0300re nord et en e\u0301te\u0301 dans l\u2019he\u0301misphe\u0300re sud, lorsque les cyclones extratropicaux sont fre\u0301quents. Ces \u201crivie\u0300res atmosphe\u0301riques\u201d provoquent des pluies torrentielles. Le cycle de l\u2019eau liquide continentale est, lui, plus complexe. Il inclut la respiration des ve\u0301ge\u0301taux, les e\u0301coulements de surface ou souterrains, et le stockage dans les glaciers et les lacs.<\/p>\n<p><b>Circulation thermohaline: le tapis roulant oce\u0301anique<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Les courants oce\u0301aniques de\u0301pendent aussi fortement des e\u0301carts de tempe\u0301rature et de salinite\u0301 qui existent entre les masses d\u2019eau. Plus une eau est sale\u0301e et froide, plus elle est dense. Ces diffe\u0301rences de densite\u0301 de\u0301clenchent des transferts d\u2019eau ascendants ou descendants qui contribuent a\u0300 la circulation oce\u0301anique profonde dite \u201cthermohaline\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Pour illustration, le Gulf Stream est un courant chaud qui nai\u0302t dans l\u2019Atlantique nord de la fusion de trois courants de surface (les courants e\u0301quatoriaux sud et nord, et le courant du golfe du Mexique). Apre\u0300s avoir longe\u0301 la co\u0302te est des E\u0301tats-Unis, il bifurque vers l\u2019est pour venir re\u0301chauffer les co\u0302tes de l\u2019Europe occidentale. Progressant ensuite vers le nord, le Gulf Stream disparai\u0302t lorsque ses eaux se me\u0301langent a\u0300 celles de l\u2019Arctique qui, plus froides et plus sale\u0301es, s\u2019enfoncent vers les abysses&#8230; et repartent vers le golfe du Mexique.<\/p>\n<p><b>Le phe\u0301nome\u0300ne El Nin\u0303o<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Phe\u0301nome\u0300ne irre\u0301gulier culminant vers Noe\u0308l (d\u2019ou\u0300 son nom, re\u0301fe\u0301rence a\u0300 l\u2019Enfant Je\u0301sus), El Nin\u0303o correspond au re\u0301chauffement accentue\u0301 des eaux de surface longeant la co\u0302te ouest de l\u2019Ame\u0301rique du Sud, normalement froides. En raison d\u2019un affaiblissement des alize\u0301s (soufflant d\u2019est en ouest) du\u0302 a\u0300 une chute des pressions atmosphe\u0301riques, les eaux chaudes du Pacifique sud refluent en effet d\u2019ouest en est, emmenant avec elles les nuages et pre\u0301cipitations caracte\u0301risant l\u2019air chaud ascendant.<\/p>\n<p>El Nin\u0303o s\u2019accompagne de se\u0301cheresses marque\u0301es en Australie et en Asie, et d\u2019inondations en Ame\u0301rique latine, Afrique e\u0301quatoriale et au sud des E\u0301tats-Unis. Les tempe\u0302tes tropicales et les cyclones se de\u0301placent aussi plus a\u0300 l\u2019est, affectant la Polyne\u0301sie. Lorsque les alize\u0301s se renforcent dans le Pacifique Sud, le phe\u0301nome\u0300ne inverse s\u2019observe: la Nin\u0303a (la petite fille), aux effets oppose\u0301s, mais moins prononce\u0301s.<\/p>\n<p><b>Des courants soumis aux vents dominants<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Les courants oce\u0301aniques entrai\u0302nent d\u2019e\u0301normes masses d\u2019eau d\u2019un point a\u0300 l\u2019autre de la Terre, affectant ainsi le climat des re\u0301gions co\u0302tie\u0300res. Gra\u0302ce au rayonnement solaire, l\u2019oce\u0301an emmagasine de la chaleur dans les 300 premiers me\u0300tres de profondeur, avant tout dans les re\u0301gions tropicales, mais plus ge\u0301ne\u0301ralement a\u0300 toutes les latitudes ou\u0300 il n\u2019est pas englace\u0301. Les courants de surface, de\u0301pendants des vents et initie\u0301s par eux, sont extre\u0302mement mobiles ge\u0301ographiquement. Sous l\u2019action de la force de Coriolis, due a\u0300 la rotation de la Terre, ils sont progressivement de\u0301vie\u0301s de leur trajectoire initiale \u2013 d\u2019est en ouest \u2013 et tournent dans le sens horaire dans l\u2019he\u0301misphe\u0300re nord, antihoraire dans l\u2019he\u0301misphe\u0300re sud.
