Elle est constitue\u0301e d\u2019une mosai\u0308que de masses d\u2019air mobiles atteignant plusieurs milliers de kilome\u0300tres de longueur pour quelques kilome\u0300tres de haut. Selon qu\u2019elles sont situe\u0301es au-dessus des oce\u0301ans, des calottes glaciaires ou des continents, elles diffe\u0300rent par leur tempe\u0301rature et leur humidite\u0301. Ces masses peuvent se rejoindre. Leur surface de contact est appele\u0301e un front.<\/p>\n<p>Dans le cas d\u2019un front dit \u201cfroid\u201d, la masse d\u2019air froid, plus dense, passe rapidement sous la masse d\u2019air chaud en la soulevant. Celle-ci se rafrai\u0302chit alors et des nuages de type cumulus ou cumulonimbus se forment, associe\u0301s a\u0300 de fortes pre\u0301cipitations. Dans le cas d\u2019un front \u201cchaud\u201d, une masse d\u2019air chaud pousse lentement une masse d\u2019air froid tout en la recouvrant. Des nuages de type cirrus se forment, suivis de pre\u0301cipitations mode\u0301re\u0301es. Sur les cartes me\u0301te\u0301o, les fronts froids sont repre\u0301sente\u0301s par des triangles bleus le long des lignes isobares (de me\u0302me pression) et les fronts chauds par des demi-cercles rouges.<\/p>\n<p>Il existe deux autres types de front: \u201cocclus\u201d, lorsque le front chaud est coince\u0301 entre deux fronts froids (demi-cercles et triangles violets sur les cartes me\u0301te\u0301o), avec de faibles pre\u0301cipitations, et \u201cstationnaire\u201d quand deux masses d\u2019air de tempe\u0301rature diffe\u0301rente se croisent lentement sans interagir (en bleu et rouge sur les cartes), avec un temps couvert.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"453\" height=\"409\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12982 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/sao-tome-e-principe\/sites\/59\/2024\/04\/sm_1713123732.332621.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/sao-tome-e-principe\/sites\/59\/2024\/04\/sm_1713123732.332621.jpg 453w, https:\/\/static.africa-press.net\/sao-tome-e-principe\/sites\/59\/2024\/04\/sm_1713123732.332621-300x271.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 453px) 100vw, 453px\" \/><br \/>\nFronts froid et chaud rythment les tempe\u0301ratures et les pre\u0301cipitations. Cre\u0301dit: Philippe Puiseux<\/p>\n<p><b>Comment fonctionne un barome\u0300tre ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Invente\u0301 par le physicien italien Toricelli en 1643, le barome\u0300tre mesure le poids de la colonne d\u2019air a\u0300 son aplomb, donc la pression atmosphe\u0301rique. Les premiers barome\u0300tres e\u0301taient constitue\u0301s d\u2019un tube contenant du mercure et plonge\u0301 dans un bassin rempli de ce me\u0302me me\u0301tal. La hauteur du mercure dans le tube traduisait la pression s\u2019exerc\u0327ant sur le bassin.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, on utilise le barome\u0300tre dit \u201cane\u0301roi\u0308de\u201d. Il repose sur une capsule e\u0301lastique dans laquelle on fait un vide partiel. Sa de\u0301formation sous l\u2019effet des variations de pression est transmise a\u0300 une aiguille, pour les barome\u0300tres classiques, ou mesure\u0301e par des capteurs.<\/p>\n<p><b>Anticyclone ou de\u0301pression ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>La pression atmosphe\u0301rique est le poids exerce\u0301 par la colonne d\u2019air au-dessus de nos te\u0302tes. Au niveau de la mer, la pression moyenne est de 1013 hPa (hectopascals). Si elle est supe\u0301rieure, c\u2019est une situation d\u2019anticyclone. De l\u2019air froid descend des couches supe\u0301rieures de l\u2019atmosphe\u0300re, ge\u0301ne\u0301rant du vent qui tourne dans le sens des aiguilles d\u2019une montre (dans l\u2019he\u0301misphe\u0300re nord). Les conditions sont stables, le vent est faible, le ciel de\u0301gage\u0301.<\/p>\n<p>Si la pression est infe\u0301rieure a\u0300 1013 hPa, c\u2019est une situation de de\u0301pression. L\u2019air chaud proche de la surface monte. Or, plus l\u2019air est chaud, plus il peut contenir de vapeur d\u2019eau. Des nuages se forment. Le vent tourne dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d\u2019une montre. Le temps est couvert, agite\u0301, pluvieux. Outre cette origine thermique, anticyclones et de\u0301pressions peuvent aussi se former du fait de phe\u0301nome\u0300nes dynamiques: convergence ou divergence de vents a\u0300 tre\u0300s haute altitude, effet de barrie\u0300re des massifs montagneux&#8230; Dans l\u2019he\u0301misphe\u0300re sud, les sens de rotation du vent sont inverse\u0301s.<\/p>\n<p><b>En hiver, la me\u0301te\u0301o europe\u0301enne sur courant alternatif<\/b><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019oscillation nord-atlantique (ONA) de\u0301signe le mouvement de fluctuation entre une zone de basses pressions, la de\u0301pression d\u2019Islande, et une zone de hautes pressions, l\u2019anticyclone des Ac\u0327ores, au large du Portugal. Elle joue un grand ro\u0302le dans la me\u0301te\u0301o hivernale. L\u2019ONA est en mode \u201cne\u0301gatif\u201d quand la de\u0301pression d\u2019Islande et l\u2019anticyclone des Ac\u0327ores sont faibles. Le courant d\u2019altitude (courant-jet ou jet stream) traverse une zone froide, est bloque\u0301 par une zone de hautes pressions puis redescend et provoque un temps froid et sec sur le nord de l\u2019Europe et un temps chaud et humide sur le sud. Le mode positif: quand la de\u0301pression d\u2019Islande et l\u2019anticyclone des Ac\u0327ores sont forts, le courant-jet n\u2019est pas de\u0301vie\u0301.
