Se cre\u0301ent alors des fronts pouvant atteindre plusieurs milliers de kilome\u0300tres carre\u0301s. Ils s\u2019e\u0301tirent a\u0300 mesure que l\u2019altitude augmente, dessinant une ligne courbe.<\/p>\n<p>Leur confrontation entrai\u0302ne une baisse de pression au sol: les vents s\u2019intensifient, les nuages et les pre\u0301cipitations se de\u0301veloppent. Plus l\u2019e\u0301cart de tempe\u0301rature, de densite\u0301 et d\u2019humidite\u0301 entre les masses d\u2019air est important, plus les vents sont violents. Ceux-ci s\u2019intensifient encore en rencontrant le courant-jet, entre 8 et 12 kilome\u0300tres d\u2019altitude. La tempe\u0302te se calme lorsque l\u2019e\u0301nergie cine\u0301tique mobilise\u0301e pour former les fronts se dissipe par frottement. Une tempe\u0302te est de\u0301finie de\u0300s lors que les vents de\u0301passent 90 km\/h. Les plus intenses se situent autour de 60\u00b0 de latitude, ou\u0300 le contraste thermique est maximal entre les masses d\u2019air polaires et subtropicales.<\/p>\n<p><b>Comment se forme un orage ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Les orages sont des phe\u0301nome\u0300nes localise\u0301s et de courte dure\u0301e s\u2019accompagnant d\u2019e\u0301ve\u0301nements violents: averses de pluie ou de gre\u0302le, vents, tonnerre et e\u0301clairs. Pour qu\u2019un orage se forme, l\u2019atmosphe\u0300re doit e\u0302tre humide et instable, avec un fort contraste de tempe\u0301ratures entre l\u2019air chaud pre\u0300s du sol et l\u2019air froid en altitude. L\u2019ascension de masses d\u2019air chaud est le facteur de\u0301clenchant la formation de nuages orageux, ou cumulonimbus. Elle se produit dans diffe\u0301rentes conditions: en pre\u0301sence d\u2019un relief montagneux par exemple (soule\u0300vement orographique), quand le sol surchauffe\u0301 provoque l\u2019ascension d\u2019une bulle d\u2019air chaud et donc plus le\u0301ger que l\u2019air environnant (soule\u0300vement thermique), ou lorsque l\u2019air chaud rencontre, en s\u2019e\u0301levant, une masse d\u2019air froid (soule\u0300vement frontal).<\/p>\n<p>Le cumulonimbus gonfle alors, pouvant atteindre plus de 15 kilome\u0300tres de hauteur. Lorsque les particules de glace qui se de\u0301veloppent a\u0300 son sommet deviennent assez grosses, elles provoquent des pre\u0301cipitations et un courant descendant d\u2019air frais. Celui-ci, une fois au sol, interrompt l\u2019apport d\u2019air chaud vers le sommet du nuage, qui s\u2019affaiblit et se dissipe. L\u2019orage ne dure pas plus de deux heures.<\/p>\n<p><b>L\u2019orage sec<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Cet e\u0301ve\u0301nement rare se produit lorsque la pluie s\u2019e\u0301vapore a\u0300 haute altitude avant d\u2019avoir touche\u0301 le sol. Il est accentue\u0301 par la se\u0301cheresse. La foudre s\u2019abat alors sur un sol en de\u0301ficit hydrique, engendrant des risques d\u2019incendie.<\/p>\n<p><b>Des charges explosives<\/b><\/p>\n<p>E\u0301clairs et tonnerre s\u2019expliquent par la re\u0301partition de charges e\u0301lectriques oppose\u0301es a\u0300 l\u2019inte\u0301rieur d\u2019un cumulonimbus: les charges positives s\u2019installent au sommet, les charges ne\u0301gatives pre\u0300s de la base. L\u2019air e\u0301tant mauvais conducteur, les charges s\u2019accumulent jusqu\u2019a\u0300 ce que les diffe\u0301rences de potentiel soient conside\u0301rables et brutalement corrige\u0301es par une de\u0301charge gigantesque, l\u2019e\u0301clair. Celui-ci chauffe brusquement l\u2019air environnant a\u0300 plus de 30.000\u00b0C, provoquant une dilatation explosive de l\u2019air: le tonnerre. L\u2019e\u0301clair et le tonnerre sont les manifestations, respectivement visuelle et sonore, d\u2019un me\u0302me phe\u0301nome\u0300ne.<\/p>\n<p><b>Un de\u0301luge: l\u2019e\u0301pisode Ce\u0301venol<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ce sont des orages violents accompagne\u0301s de pluies torrentielles \u2013 plus de 200 millime\u0300tres de pre\u0301cipitations en 24 heures -, entrai\u0302nant le plus souvent des crues soudaines (e\u0301pisodes de Vaison-la-Romaine en 1992 ou de la Ve\u0301subie en 2020). On ne les observe pas exclusivement dans les Ce\u0301vennes mais, plus largement, sur l\u2019arc me\u0301diterrane\u0301en. Ils se produisent lorsque de l\u2019air chaud et humide ge\u0301ne\u0301re\u0301 par les tempe\u0301ratures e\u0301leve\u0301es de la Me\u0301diterrane\u0301e en fin d\u2019e\u0301te\u0301 rencontrent les reliefs montagneux, entrai\u0302nant un soule\u0300vement des masses d\u2019air et une condensation responsable des fortes pluies.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019air froid en altitude, bloque\u0301 par les reliefs, agit comme un couvercle, renforc\u0327ant la violence du phe\u0301nome\u0300ne. Ces e\u0301pisodes s\u2019observent fre\u0301quemment entre septembre et de\u0301cembre.<\/p>\n<p><b>La bombe me\u0301te\u0301o<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une tempe\u0302te qui s\u2019intensifie tre\u0300s rapidement du fait d\u2019une chute brutale de pression (au moins 24 hectopascals en 24 heures).
