Africa-Press – S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 e Pr\u00edncipe. <\/strong><\/span>Le mardi 24 mai, un colloque s\u2019est tenu au Grand Salon du pavillon Maurice-Pollack sur le th\u00e8me \u00abConstruire ensemble la recherche sur les min\u00e9raux critiques et strat\u00e9giques (MCS) pour une \u00e9conomie verte\u00bb. Les trois tables rondes de la journ\u00e9e ont port\u00e9 sur les enjeux socio\u00e9conomiques des MCS, la valorisation des ressources en MCS, et l\u2019innovation technologique et les changements soci\u00e9taux pour une utilisation durable des MCS. Les panels \u00e9taient compos\u00e9s d\u2019universitaires, de repr\u00e9sentants gouvernementaux et de repr\u00e9sentants de l\u2019entreprise priv\u00e9e, ainsi que d\u2019une repr\u00e9sentante d\u2019Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n

Le cuivre, le graphite, le zinc, le cobalt, le nickel, le niobium, le titane, le lithium: voil\u00e0 autant de MCS que poss\u00e8de le Qu\u00e9bec en grande quantit\u00e9 dans son sous-sol.<\/p>\n

Tr\u00e8s recherch\u00e9s, ces min\u00e9raux d\u2019avenir sont au nombre de 42 au Qu\u00e9bec et de 48 au Canada. Cellulaires, ordinateurs portables, batteries rechargeables, plusieurs objets de notre quotidien contiennent de tels min\u00e9raux. Ils servent aussi \u00e0 la fabrication d\u2019\u00e9quipements m\u00e9dicaux et d\u2019instruments dentaires. Dans la lutte contre les changements climatiques et les gaz \u00e0 effet de serre, on les utilise notamment dans la fabrication d\u2019\u00e9oliennes, de panneaux solaires et de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n

Selon Georges Beaudoin, professeur au D\u00e9partement de g\u00e9ologie et de g\u00e9nie g\u00e9ologique de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval, les MCS sont indispensables \u00e0 la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et technologique du Qu\u00e9bec. \u00abLe gouvernement du Qu\u00e9bec, dit-il, veut faire l\u2019\u00e9lectrification des transports. Cela prend entre autres le stockage de l\u2019\u00e9nergie \u00e9lectrique dans des batteries. Un certain nombre de min\u00e9raux strat\u00e9giques sont n\u00e9cessaires pour le d\u00e9veloppement de la fili\u00e8re de la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique. Pour la batterie \u00e9lectrique, on parle notamment du graphite et du lithium. Pour la fabrication des anodes et des cathodes de ces m\u00eames batteries, on parle entre autres du nickel et du cobalt.<\/p>\n
