Africa-Press – Senegal. The President of the Republic denied on Saturday the existence in Senegal of people detained for political reasons.
« There are no political prisoners in Senegal. If I did not tolerate everything that is said of the President of the Republic, it would be difficult, » said Macky Sall.

‘’La notion de ‘détenu politique’ est impropre’’, a-t-il ajouté.
Plusieurs militants de l’opposition ont été arrêtés lors de récentes manifestations survenues en marge du procès en diffamation du leader de l’opposition, Ousmane Sonko.
Le maire de Ziguinchor (sud) a été reconnu coupable et condamné à deux mois de prison avec sursis et au paiement de dommages et intérêts à la partie civile, le ministre Mame Mbaye Niang, le 30 mars. Le procès en appel de la même affaire judiciaire a démarré lundi dernier, après que la partie civile et le ministère public ont interjeté appel.
More than 300 Pastef-Les patriotes activists were arrested during demonstrations that took place on the sidelines of the trial, said the leader of the said political formation, Ousmane Sonko.
« We break the law, we burn and we loot. Anyone who does this is arrested […] It has nothing to do with human rights. No one is detained in Senegal for their political opinions,” insisted Macky Sall.
« Every state has the capacity to defend its laws. It is valid for the State of Senegal and the others […] I do not repress, » he argued, still speaking in Wolof.
