SENEGAL-AFRICA-SURF / The authorities invited to make Ngor ''a training ground'' for surfing

Africa-Press – Senegal. The mayor of Ngor, Magueye Ndiaye, on Sunday invited the sports authorities of Senegal to make his town a « ground » for training and practicing surfing in order to create new champions in this sport.

« Make the land of Ngor a training ground to show that surfing can develop in the localities in the company of the communities to create new champions », he said.

Mr. Ndiaye was speaking after the unanimous election of the Senegalese El Hadji Oumar Sèye as head of the presidency of the African Football Confederation, during a general assembly in Ngor.

He said that by bringing Sèye to the head of the confederation, “it is Senegal and the commune of Ngor that are honored”. “The first surf movie was shot in Ngor. Today you go back to the source for a new vision of Africa and to help young Africans contribute to the development of world surfing, » he said.

Magueye Ndiaye pointed out that the Senegalese Surfing Federation (FSS) set up four years ago “started from nothing to hoist Senegalese surfing on the roof of the world”.

« If Mr. Sèye wants to make Africa a new surfing destination and write a new chapter in the history of African surfing, we can trust him, he will do it because he has already done it » , he argued.

He assured that the whole municipality “will be at his side to support him and will put in place everything he needs to make this mission a success”.

For his part, the representative of the Minister of Sports, Fallou Kane, invited the new president “to make surfing more inclusive”. Mr. Kane hailed the « international boom » that Senegalese surfing has achieved in a decade and promised that the State of Senegal will take all necessary measures to support the development of the sport.
