Africa-Press – Senegal. The Egyptian team of Al Ahly and its Moroccan counterpart of Wydad Athletic Club will face each other in the final of the Champions League of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), in a remake of the final of last year’s edition.
As in the 2022 edition, the final of the previous edition of the CAF Champions League will again oppose Wydad and Al Ahly in a derby in North Africa.
During the previous edition the Moroccan team had taken over the Egyptian ogre.
The first leg will be played on June 4 at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt and the return match a week later (June 11) at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Wydad, defending champion, eliminated South African team Mamelodi Sundowns (2-2, aggregate score), in favor of away goals.
Al Ahly got rid of Espérance de Tunis (4-0, aggregate score).
The two teams will meet for the third time in the final, after 2017 and 2022 with each time a defeat for the Red Devils of Al Ahly.
With ten cups won, the Egyptian team is the most successful club in the competition.
Wydad AC, nicknamed the Red Fortress, won the tournament three times.
