SENEGAL-POLITICS-CHILDREN / Violence: actors denounce the involvement of children in the demonstrations

Africa-Press – Senegal.

« We, child protection actors, deplore the involvement of children in socio-political events and public demonstrations in Senegal which have already caused deaths, including children, » they said in a statement sent to the APS.

According to them, « the negative effects of socio-political unrest can lead to the cessation of certain basic social services such as education, and impact on the mental health of children and their physical integrity ».

Child protection actors encourage « national authorities to ensure all the necessary conditions to ensure educational continuity and allow children to continue their learning in safe spaces, in peace and in the most complete security ».

The child protection actors also invited « the various parties to banish any involvement of children in public demonstrations and to prevent children from being exploited or finding themselves in risky situations ».

Parents are also invited to « dialogue with children and to be extra vigilant with regard to them, to keep them away from scenes of violence and risky situations for their protection and well-being ».

The State is invited « to seek out and punish the perpetrators of acts that compromise the safety and well-being of children ».

national and local actors, the media and community leaders are also urged to “multiply awareness messages aimed at families on the importance of strengthening the supervision and safety of their children”.
