Africa-Press – Senegal. The development and earthworks of the community agricultural domain (DAC) of Niombato, located in the department of Foundiougne, will start within four months, i.e. in September, on a flat land of 500 hectares, said Monday, Cheikh Abdou Souley Kidiera, focal point of the project.
“At a cost of 11 billion CFA francs, and implemented by the Community Agricultural Domains Program (PRODAC), the Dac du Niombato will generate 8,000 jobs. The work will start within four months”, said Mr. Kidiera, during a visit to Keur Saloum Diané, one of the communes of Niombato, whose municipal council has allocated 98 hectares to the establishment of Dac.
He added that « this 98-hectare surface comes in addition to the 402 hectares deliberated by the management of Waters and Forests of Foundiougne, for the continuation of the work of the Dac du Niombato », specifying that on these 98 hectares, agricultural infrastructures, buildings, storage warehouses, training rooms and food factories will be erected for the benefit of the populations.
On the other hand, he continued, the 402 hectares will be used to develop perimeters intended for market gardening activities, fish farming, or animal production planned for the completion of the work of the Dac. “The Prodac, he explained, should obtain 500 hectares to carry out all the development and earthworks of the Dac. Now that we have the land, the work can start”.
“We want through this Dac to serve as an incubator for young people and women who need to be trained and supported in various income-generating activities” added the focal point.
In 2017, the government of Senegal received funding of 47 billion CFA francs from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), as part of the agricultural entrepreneurship development project, an initiative of Prodac. The objective is to contribute to promoting rural employment, through the development of the means of production and the strengthening of the entrepreneurial skills of young people in the regions of Kaffrine, Fatick, Louga and Kolda.
