Ninety-seven percent of companies in Senegal do not have financial statements, a situation that makes their visibility difficult, the director general of the Development and Development Agency revealed on Friday. management of small and medium-sized enterprises (ADEPME), Idrissa Diabira.
“In Senegal, 97% of companies do not have financial statements. So financial institutions […] don’t have good visibility, and that’s what we’re talking about in terms of information asymmetry,” he said.
Mr. Diabira intervened during the signing of an agreement with Bridge Bank Senegal, a branch of this financial institution based in Côte d’Ivoire.
As part of the bank refinancing system, he said, ADEPME has a role to play upstream and downstream to ensure the eligibility of small and medium-sized enterprises.
“One of our roles is to help the company have better visibility of itself in order to be able to promote it to financial institutions. Once again, we only lend to the one we know. And to know a company is to know its activities and to be able to translate them into financial statements that are viable and robust,” he said.
ADEPME, in collaboration with the order of chartered accountants and consulting firms, helps companies to get to know each other in order to be better recognized.
« Il s’agit aussi d’aider à structurer les projets de l’entreprise suivant les ententes des institutions financières qui sont soumises à des règles prudentielles, à des contraintes », a-t-il renseigné.
L’ADEPME joue également un rôle de suivi des financements accordés aux entreprises pour un remboursement effectif. Elle fait en sorte que « l’entreprise grandisse, que les prêts soient remboursés et que chacun soit content ».
