Africa-Press – Senegal. The President of the Republic, Macky Sall, on Saturday in Dakar welcomed the conclusions of the national dialogue he had launched on May 31, speaking in this regard of a « work of quality with relevant and realistic proposals” which he says he has accepted “globally”.
“I congratulate you for this quality work with relevant and realistic proposals that I accepted overall. I say overall, “said Head of State, receiving the report resulting from the work of the national dialogue from the hands of the chairman of the steering committee, the former president of the National Assembly, Moustapha Niasse.
Macky Sall also welcomed the twelve-point agreements in the report on the 16 points to be discussed. This represents, according to him, “strong consensuses” which should make it possible to move towards “peaceful elections and healthy competitions”.
The President of the Republic invited the government to “examine the report carefully”, with a view to “transforming the proposals into concrete measures”.
To give the conclusions of the national dialogue a « more effective and resilient content », the Head of State gave the government a period of one week to propose to the National Assembly the adoption of legislative texts in the procedure of ’emergency.
Macky Sall also welcomed the participation in this national dialogue of many political and civil society actors as well as the so-called non-aligned parties, « guided by the higher interests of the nation ».
« When you have the political majority, you can govern well, but there are times you have to act by consensus », he continued, adding that it takes « courage and political maturity to agree to participate in a dialogue.
He also says he is “convinced” that dialogue constitutes “a merit of all the Senegalese people”. “No international institution has come to impose a dialogue on us. It’s something we’ve taken from our own cultural backgrounds to speak to ourselves, » he said.
