Africa-Press – Senegal. Consumer foodstuffs, including onions and potatoes, are available in quantity in the markets of Bambey (center), announced the head of the departmental trade service, Marième Fall, deploring, however, the rise in prices.
« A few hours before the Tabaski festival, we noticed that the market is well stocked with basic foodstuffs » despite the high cost of these products, she said in an interview with the APS.
She reported “an increase in the price of onions and potatoes, the kilogram of which rose from 500 to 700 FCFA”. A situation linked to “the high demand for products during this festive period” and the “cost of transporting goods. »
« We are convinced that there will be no shortage in the department of Bambey by Tabaski, » she tried to assure.
She pointed out that the agents of her department “carry out daily inventory statements as well as visits to the markets to follow the evolution of the situation”, in order to “prepare for any eventuality.
Abdourahmane Diouf, a trader established in the city center of Bambey, explains the increase observed in the prices of onions and potatoes by the strong demand for these two foodstuffs during this period. Added to this is the non-availability of the imported onion.
