The Senegalese striker of Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), Bouly Junior Sambou, top scorer in the Moroccan football championship this season with 13 goals, has expressed his desire to be called up to the senior national team, promising to take his chance if the opportunity presented itself.
« I will continue to work in the club in order to remain efficient and do everything to attract the attention of the coach (Aliou Cissé), so that he gives me my chance and I will not fail to seize it », a- he said in an interview with APS.
« The national team coach, Aliou Cissé, has himself said that he will only call on high-performing players. So, I will do my best to be and remain efficient, ”insisted the native of Bignona (south), elected player of the month for March 2023 in the Moroccan championship.
The former striker of Senegalese club Teungueth FC (2019-2020) says that « every Senegalese player, wherever he is, dreams of one day playing in the national A team and defending the colors of his country. »
Sambou made his first selection for the A’ national team in July 2022, during the 2022 COSAFA Cup, a competition between national teams from southern Africa, to which Senegal was invited. The Lions, eliminated in the semi-finals by Zambia with a score of 4 goals to 3, had finished in third place at the expense of Mozambique.
The 24-year-old also took part in the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers won by Senegal. He had played part of the matches before joining Wydad.
Top scorer in his first year
The 2023 Confederation of African Football Champions League finalist against Al Ahli (Egypt) joined the Moroccan club on August 30, 2022, from Jaraaf (2020-2022). He had just finished co-top scorer in the Senegalese football championship with the former player of Génération Foot (Senegal) who is currently playing for the Czech club FK Viagem Příbram, Ngagne Fall. Each of them had scored 13 goals.

Wydad celebrates its artificer
Bouly Junior Sambou was recently rewarded by his club for his performances last season during a ceremony held in Casablanca (Morocco).
A trophy was presented to him by one of the legends of Wydad, the former Senegalese international Moussa Ndao (1987-1994). The former defensive midfielder of the Casablanca-based club (1989-1994) made the heyday of one of the most successful Moroccan teams. He scored 79 goals in 149 games and won several trophies.
Aged 54 today, Ndao has become a coach. Between 2011 and 2016, he managed Wydad’s under-21 and under-21 teams.
