Africa-Press – Senegal. Economy and food sovereignty, academic and sports cooperation, are the major themes of the second Russia-Africa summit whose work opens Thursday in St. Petersburg (27 and 28) , we learned from the structure in charge of organizing this event, the Roscongress Foundation.
The President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, will take part in this meeting after the first edition held in Sochi in 2019.
Des chefs d’Etat du continent seront aux côtés de leur homologue russe Vladimir Poutine. D’autres pays seront représentés par leurs chefs de gouvernement ou les ministres en charge de la défense ou des affaires étrangères, indique t-on sur place.
La même source annonce également des »panels de haut niveau » à l’agenda de ces deux jours du sommet. Des participants vont plancher sur un panel portant sur »la stabilité du marché des engrais comme gage d’éradication de la faim dans les pays africains ».
Un autre sous-thème portant sur »les nouvelles voies logistiques Russie-Afrique » est également inscrit dans le programme reçu des organisateurs.
»Russie et Afrique : un partenariat en faveur de la souveraineté alimentaire », figure également parmi les thèmes du sommet qui va accorder »un cachet significatif à l’humanitaire ».
This panel will be an opportunity to question “whether the experience of loans granted to Russian farmers could serve as a model for African states”, details the document.
One of the themes also relates to “the development in terms of inter-university exchanges”. The panelists will thus work on “the priority scientific fields for the development of Africa”.
The summit also wants to focus on issues related to sport as an « instrument of diplomacy », with a theme entitled: « sport: a bridge of friendship between Russia and Africa ».
« For young Africans, sport is one of the most accessible social elevators and African countries have great potential in the field of sport », underlines the text of the organizers, adding that the friendship games that Russia counts to organize in September 2024 “will be one of the new bridges between the Russian Federation and African countries”.
