Africa-Press – Senegal. The presidential majority risks suffering the same fate as the Socialist Party (PS) in 2000 and the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) in 2012, because of the candidacies announced by some of its officials for the ballot of February 25, 2024, declared Djibril War, the director of the party school at the Alliance for the Republic (APR), the political formation of Macky Sall.
« With the behavior of some RPA officials, we run the risk of suffering the same fate as the PS in 2000 and the PDS in 2012, despite the many achievements of President Macky Sall », warned Mr. War in an interview published Tuesday by the private Dakar newspaper Le Quotidien.
Mr. War made the comment while talking about the candidacies announced by some Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) officials.
The PS, after several presidential mandates, was defeated in the 2000 election. The PDS suffered the same fate twelve years later, after two mandates of its leader, Abdoulaye Wade.
« That’s the question everyone is asking. This situation of rivalry has created great unease in the party, a climate of division and suspicion, » replied Djibril War when asked why several leaders of the majority are showing the desire to be candidates after having instructed Macky Sall to choose a candidate for Benno Bokk Yaakaar.
Mr. War deplored the “positioning battle” led by these leaders or elected officials of BBY.
« We can understand the impatience of the Senegalese. We can also understand the attitude of the President [of the Republic] taking into account his heavy daily tasks, such as the management of problems related to wintering and the risk of flooding, despite the means deployed, » he said. -he says in answer to the question of what is delaying the nomination of the candidate of BBY.
“At the international level, the President [of the Republic] is often called upon because of his leadership recognized by his peers in the African Union, for the settlement of certain crises, in particular that of Niger,” argued the director of the RPA party school.
He deplores the declarations of candidacy of certain BBY officials, especially since, according to him, “all those who spoke” at a meeting chaired by Macky Sall “gave him carte blanche” for him to choose the candidate of Benno Bokk Yaakaar.
« All those who took the floor had given carte blanche to the president to choose the candidate himself and had made a commitment to comply with this choice », he insisted, asserting that only the former Minister Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr and Abdoul Aziz Diop, minister, adviser to the President of the Republic, had volunteered for the candidacy of the presidential majority.
Former Prime Minister Mahammed Dionne, current Head of Government Amadou Ba, President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo and Minister of Agriculture Aly Ngouille Ndiaye are said to be frontrunners in the bid of BBY, according to some political analysts.
The leaders of the parties in this coalition said they left it to Macky Sall to nominate BBY’s candidate.
