Africa-Press – Senegal. Karamba Dabo et Vieux Souleymane Traoré ont été respectivement élus président et secrétaire général de la fédération départementale du Parti démocratique sénégalais (PDS) à Sédhiou (sud), mais des voix s’élèvent pour contester leur légitimité.
« In Sédhiou, the office of the federation of the Senegalese Democratic Party was elected. Karamba Dabo was elected president, and Vieux Souleymane serves as secretary general of the office, » said Bakary Diao, the supervisor of the general assembly.
‘’La constitution du nouveau bureau s’est faite de manière consensuelle. Les délégués des 13 communes ont choisi Karamba Dabo et Vieux Souleymane Traoré à l’unanimité’’, a-t-il souligné à la fin de la réunion de renouvellement de la direction départementale de ce parti d’opposition. ‘’C’est l’heure du travail. Les militants et sympathisants sont tous appelés à descendre sur le terrain, à aller vers les populations.’’
M. Dabo est un entrepreneur. Le nouveau secrétaire général de la fédération, économiste de formation, est un ancien collaborateur de Karim Wade. Il a été adjoint du maire de Sédhiou.
PDS activists from the communes of Bambaly, Bemet, Diendé and Marsassoum are contesting the legitimacy of the new office of the federation.
Alassane Ndiaye, a party official in Marsassoum and former mayor of the said commune, reported « divergences » between local leaders.
« We do not recognize this office which was installed […] at the expense of early activists, » maintained Mr. Ndiaye.
« It’s clear that we are going to fight against this office, » he warned.
Moussa Mandiang, a PDS leader in Diendé, denounced an « illegitimate » office, speaking of the one headed by Karamba Dabo and Vieux Souleymane Traoré.
Messrs. Mandiang and Ndiaye to gain access to the room where the general assembly was held by their comrades, who accuse them of having supported the APR, the ruling party, during the last municipal and legislative elections.
The former ruling party, one of the most representative political parties in the National Assembly, has begun the renewal of its bodies.
