Africa-Press – Senegal. The concern to ensure the continuity of the conduct of public policies built around the Emerging Senegal Plan (PSE) guided the choice of Amadou Ba for the management of Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) at the presidential election next February, said the president of the said coalition, Macky Sall.

“After listening to everyone and taking into consideration all the suggestions, we put forward the preservation of the Republic and democracy, the safeguarding of peace and stability for the pursuit of public policies around the base that constitutes the Emerging Senegal Plan,” he said.

According to Macky Sall, the current head of government has the profile to bring together activists from the Alliance for the Republic (APR), the presidential party, those from other political groups that are members of BBY and beyond these two entities.

“He knows the Emerging Senegal Plan well enough to ensure the continuation of economic, social and environmental policies,” added the outgoing president, who decided not to run for a third term.

He returned to the process of selecting BBY’s candidate, saying he had « even proposed a sort of primary through the vote of the electors ».

“But this idea was rejected by most of the candidates and leaders who feared that such an approach could be a source of divisions […] harmful to the coalition,” underlined Macky Sall.

“This means that today’s choice is a concerted and collegial choice,” he insisted, before launching a “vibrant appeal for the unity of all candidates for candidacy”, which, he said, “all had points to make.”

He thanked them for « their ability to learn the issues and priorities, while inviting each of them to put Benno’s survival and victory above all individual ambitions. »

Former President of the National Assembly Moustapha Niasse, responsible for leading the consultation with a view to the nomination of the BBY candidate, at the request of the President of the Republic, says he received 12 candidates for candidacy for four-day interviews. twenty minutes for each.

“I received some candidates twice and even three times for others. I also spoke on the phone with some of them,” he said.

Amadou Ba was chosen among other contenders for the BBY candidacy, including Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, the president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, Mame Boye Diao, the general director of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, the former Prime Minister Mahammed Dionne, and the Minister of Agriculture, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye.

The latter resigned from the government and his responsibilities at the APR, Macky Sall’s political party, after the appointment of Amadou Ba.
