Africa-Press – Senegal. The majority coalition is assured of winning the presidential election next February, if it maintains unity in its ranks, assured Saturday in Dakar, its leader, Macky Sall, emphasizing that “victory is within reach” of Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY).
“Victory is within reach,” he responded to journalists during a meeting at the Palace of the Republic, during which he announced the designation of the current Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, as the candidate of the majority made up of the ruling party and its allies.
“Our coalition is largely in the majority in this country. The only challenge is unity. I hope that the message has been very clear and that the leaders are committed to this path, said the head of state.
He encouraged the leaders of his coalition to focus on a “discourse of unity” and the need to continue efforts aimed at promoting social protection. Macky Sall also called on them to “take more care of youth”.
“We have done a lot for youth, but you know that Africa’s major challenge is its youth. We have a demographic weight which is beyond the capacities of the States, and therefore the efforts which are made are not sufficient,” he stressed.
Amadou Ba was chosen among other contenders for the BBY candidacy, including Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, the president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, Mame Boye Diao, the general director of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, the former Prime Minister Mahammed Dionne, and the Minister of Agriculture, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye.
The latter resigned from the government and his responsibilities at the APR, Macky Sall’s political party, after the appointment of Amadou Ba.
