Africa-Press – Senegal. <\/strong><\/span>The government of Senegal, on Tuesday in Dakar, signed an implementation letter with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) intended to finance the third phase of the project \u201c Ndamir\u201d for an amount of thirty-one million US dollars, or approximately 18.8 billion CFA francs.<\/p>\n

The Ndamir Project aims to reduce the number of preventable deaths of mothers and children and support the implementation of the national malaria control program (PNLP), with a view to improving the management of health risks through community health insurance schemes. For its third phase, it covers the period 2023-2026 of the new strategy of the USAID health office.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0This significant financial assistance from the American government reflects the trust and friendship between our two countries and testifies to the dynamism of Senegalese-American cooperation. The execution letter that we have just signed relates to an amount of thirty-one million (31,000,000) US dollars, or approximately 18.8 billion CFA francs, intended for the financing of the \u00ab\u00a0NDAMIR 3 Project\u00a0\u00bb. , said Moustapha Ba, the Minister of Finance and Budget, in the presence of the United States Ambassador to Senegal, Michael Raynor and the Deputy Administrator of USAID, Paloma Adams-Allen, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Action.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0By agreeing to finance this ambitious project, you intend, once again, to support the efforts of the Government of Senegal for the development of the health sector. No doubt you have understood the primordial place occupied by health in the PSE, the new reference system for public policies of the State of Senegal\u201d, added the Minister.<\/p>\n

Moustapha Ba welcomed the success of the \u201cNdamir2 Project\u201d which, \u201chaving brought together the PNLP and the project to improve the health of mothers, children and the health information system (PASMESSIS) \u00bb, made it possible to strengthen the capacities of the regions of Kaffrine, Kaolack and Ziguinchor in the implementation of high-impact interventions for the reduction of maternal, infant-child and neonatal mortality.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Through this \u201cNdamir2 project\u201d, \u201cUSAID has also supported the government of Senegal in the implementation of universal health coverage (CMU) through mutual health insurance\u201d, he rejoiced.<\/p>\n

He also magnified \u00ab\u00a0the will and the commitment of the American government to use the direct financing mechanism called \u00ab\u00a0government to government\u00a0\u00bb within the framework of the execution of the cooperation program between the two countries which makes it possible to align the US assistance to national priorities, reducing transaction costs, increasing accountability, empowering local actors and sustaining results\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Senegalese Minister of Finance and Budget also pleaded for a strengthening and expansion of this relevant government mechanism to other sectors. He expressed the government’s commitment to make sufficient financial resources available to the ministries that benefit from the programs to support activities within the framework of projects executed under the direct financing mechanism.<\/p>\n

USAID Deputy Administrator Paloma Adams-Allen welcomed the signing of a new project that reaffirms USAID’s commitment to work directly with the Government of Senegal and other local partners to design, finance and implement development interventions.<\/p>\n

She announced that for this year, \u00ab\u00a0USAID plans to program more than 45 billion CFA francs, or 75 million dollars for health-related activities in Senegal\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0USAID has provided more than 14 billion CFA francs or 24 million dollars to support the response to Covid-19\u00a0\u00bb, she recalled.<\/p>\n
