Africa-Press – Senegal. <\/strong><\/span>Participants in the international conference on unconstitutional changes of government in the West African sub-region are discussing, on Tuesday, the ECOWAS conflict prevention, management and resolution mechanisms, noted the special envoy of the APS.<\/p>\n

The architecture of peace and security of the Economic Community of West African States, its mechanism for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts are notably on the menu of discussions on the second day of the meeting hosted by the Dauda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Banjul.<\/p>\n

The panelists will also address issues relating to the settlement of disputes under the non-involvement mechanism of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, the sanctions regime and the need for joint action to restore constitutional order. wherever she was knocked down.<\/p>\n

Nearly 200 actors from the judiciary, politics and various other sectors are taking part in this international meeting aimed in particular at reaffirming the option of \u00ab\u00a0zero tolerance of ECOWAS for a change of government by unconstitutional means\u00a0\u00bb, at the initiative of the ECOWAS Court of Justice.<\/p>\n

In the Gambian capital, community jurisdiction authorities, jurists and representatives of various ECOWAS entities took part on Monday in the opening of the meeting chaired by the Vice-President of The Gambia, Muhammad Jallow.<\/p>\n

Following the official opening of the three-day international conference, participants discussed the causes and consequences of the recurrence of overthrows of democratically elected governments, particularly in Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso.<\/p>\n

With regard to these three countries, the panelists mainly wondered about the effectiveness of the sanctions against the regimes resulting from military coups in these countries.<\/p>\n

Many have notably made proposals going in the direction of moving towards more targeted sanctions on the perpetrators of the putschs, while the populations are considered to be the most impacted by the said restrictions.<\/p>\n

For its organizers, the international conference offers the Court the opportunity to examine, in collaboration with academics, lawyers and stakeholders from the Member States, important and topical thematic legal issues.<\/p>\n
