He urges them to favor inclusive dialogue in particular in anticipation of the next presidential election,\u00a0\u00bb said this body of the coalition of the presidential majority.<\/p>\n<p>In a press release sent to the APS on Saturday, the council of elders of BBY \u00a0\u00bb insists on the need for broad consultation, in order to bring together the conditions [&#8230;] for inclusive participation in a free and transparent election \u00a0\u00bb , next year.<\/p>\n<p>The presidential election of 2024 must \u201cconsolidate the democratic tradition [&#8230;] Senegalese recognized throughout the world\u201d, add the sages of the coalition of parties in power.<\/p>\n<p>The national secretariat of the council of elders of Benno Bokk Yaakaar \u00ab\u00a0deplores\u00a0\u00bb also \u00ab\u00a0the violent demonstrations which took place in the capital, Dakar, and other towns in the country\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>This instance of BBY \u00ab\u00a0notes with emotion the death toll, mainly young people\u00a0\u00bb, during the violence that occurred in Senegal between Thursday 1st and Saturday 3rd June.<\/p>\n<p>He presents his \u201cdeep condolences\u201d to the families of the victims and to the Senegalese nation.<\/p>\n<p>The national council of wise men of the presidential majority \u00ab\u00a0regrets all the violence [&#8230;] exerted on people, the destruction and burning of public and private property\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was particularly moved by the acts of degradation of the heritage of the prestigious Cheikh-Anta-Diop University in Dakar, an institution of higher education so dear to Senegal and Africa,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>The BBY member structure \u00ab\u00a0congratulates and encourages the defense and security forces for their selflessness and dedication in protecting the institutions of the Republic, people and property\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ministry of the Interior, 16 people were killed in the violence following the sentencing of opponent Ousmane Sonko to two years in prison for \u00ab\u00a0youth corruption\u00a0\u00bb, Thursday 1 June.<\/p>\n<p>He adds reports several injuries and significant material damage.<\/p>\n<p>According to his lawyers, the required sentence is likely to prevent Mr. Sonko, mayor of Ziguinchor (south), from running in the 2024 presidential election for which he declared himself a candidate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pour plus d&rsquo;informations et d&rsquo;analyses sur la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/senegal\">Senegal<\/a>, suivez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Senegal.
