Africa-Press – Senegal. <\/strong><\/span>The Senegalese Head of State, Macky Sall, sent his congratulations to the Mayor of Dakar, Barthe\u0301le\u0301my Dias, elected Wednesday President of Metropolis, the World Association of Major Cities and Metropolitan Areas of the World .<\/p>\n

\u201cI offer my hearty congratulations to our compatriot and mayor of the city of Dakar, Barthelemy Dias, who was brilliantly elected president of the Association of governments of major cities and metropolitan areas around the world and the first African to occupy this prestigious station. It is an honor for all of Senegal and for the city of Dakar,\u201d tweeted Macky Sall.<\/p>\n

Khalifa Sall, the former mayor of Dakar and president of the opposition coalition Taxawu Senegaal, of which Barthelemy Dias is a member, also sent him his \u00ab\u00a0hearty congratulations\u00a0\u00bb on Twitter.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0I am confident that his leadership and experience will advance the global challenges that will be addressed within Metropolis,\u00a0\u00bb he wrote.<\/p>\n

Metropolis, which brings together 138 governments of urban agglomerations from around the world, is \u00ab\u00a0the place where global expertise in metropolitan governance converges\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n
