Africa-Press – Senegal. <\/strong><\/span>The World Bank invited Senegalese civil society and the private sector, on Tuesday, in Dakar, to an awareness-raising workshop intended to make them better understand the rules for the award of public contracts that it finances in the Senegal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have in Senegal a portfolio of more than 3 billion dollars, of which [part] goes through public procurement. This is why we wanted to have this exchange with the private sector, so that it could have more information relating to access to these public markets\u00a0\u00bb, explained Laurent Mehdi Brito, the coordinator of the service in charge of procurement at the World Bank office in Dakar.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the workshop is to show the local private sector the opportunities and mistakes to be avoided by bidders.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to talk to the private sector and civil society organizations about how they can access markets and sources of information,\u201d said Laurent Mehdi Brito.<\/p>\n

La Banque mondiale constate qu\u2019il existe au Se\u0301ne\u0301gal beaucoup d\u2019entreprises de\u0301faillantes en matie\u0300re d\u2019exe\u0301cution des marche\u0301s publics, selon M. Brito.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe contract execution phase is very important. We see that there are often contracts that do not come to an end or that are executed late\u00a0\u00bb, he underlined, adding that \u00ab\u00a0there are big markets for international companies, for example in transport, roads and infrastructure\u201d.<\/p>\n

Senegalese entrepreneurs access these public contracts by resorting to consortia, recalled the World Bank official.<\/p>\n

The work of the workshop also focused on over-the-counter markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver-the-counter contracts are part of the methods that exist\u201d, specifies the World Bank procurement expert, adding that they are \u201cframed\u201d by the rules of the financial institution.<\/p>\n
