Thirty-two teams are taking part for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>The African continent is represented by South Africa, Morocco, Nigeria and Zambia. In this edition of the Women&rsquo;s World Cup, which will continue until August 20, Nigeria shares Pool B with Australia and Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The Super Falcons are captained by striker Asisat Oshoala, five-time winner of the Confederation of African Football&rsquo;s Most Valuable Player award. Zambia, third in the last edition of the African Women&rsquo;s Cup of Nations, will start the world competition on Saturday at 7:00 GMT against Japan, the winner of the 2011 edition.<\/p>\n<p>Zambia shares Pool C also with Croatia and Spain. Zambians can count on young striker Barbra Banda to try to win the 2023 Women&rsquo;s World Cup. South Africa, the reigning African champions, will meet Sweden on Sunday at 5:00 a.<\/p>\n<p>m. GMT. The Swedes took third place in the last edition, that of 2019, which took place in France. The Banyana Banyana of South Africa, with their famous striker Thembi Kgatlana (27), will also oppose the Argentines and the Italians, who are part of Pool G.<\/p>\n<p>* Finalist of CAN 2022, which took place at home, Morocco will be the last African selection to enter the competition. The Atlas Lionesses will challenge Germany, a double world champion (2003 and 2007).
