Africa-Press – Senegal. <\/strong><\/span>The cases pending before the Court for the Repression of Illicit Enrichment (CREI) are transferred to the financial and judicial pool, \u00ab\u00a0a new, improved, modernized system for fighting economic and financial crime\u00a0\u00bb, indicated Minister Ismai\u0308la Madior Fall, stressing that \u00ab\u00a0there is no abandonment of the proceedings\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0It should not be understood that the establishment of these new mechanisms such as the financial and judicial pool means the end of accountability in Senegal or a desire to avoid prosecution. Cases pending before the CREI are transferred to this pool,\u00a0\u00bb he said.<\/p>\n

The minister spoke on Thursday before the deputies during the vote on the draft amendment to the code of criminal procedure establishing the \u00ab\u00a0financial and judicial\u00a0\u00bb pool, \u00ab\u00a0a new, improved, modernized system for combating economic and financial crime)\u00a0\u00bb one of the direct consequences of which is the abolition of the CREI.<\/p>\n

The text was adopted by a majority of one hundred and twenty-three (123) deputies. There were thirty-six (36) abstentions.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, \u201cthere is a political will to strengthen the means of combating economic crime\u201d. \u00ab\u00a0The government has just realized that the CREI system is not effective in combating economic and financial crime,\u00a0\u00bb he argued.<\/p>\n

This is why, he underlined, \u201cmany parameters are taken into account today\u201d. \u00ab\u00a0Today, there is the specialization and capacity building of magistrates who are responsible for repressing these crimes of economic and financial delinquency,\u00a0\u00bb said the minister. He considered that \u00ab\u00a0despite their voluntarism and their professionalism, the magistrates of the CREI are not specialists\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n
