Africa-Press – Senegal. <\/strong><\/span>Scientific and technical days in the field of agricultural research are open Monday in Ziguinchor (south) at the initiative of the Senegalese Institute for Agricultural Research (ISRA) to reflect on the mechanisms \u00ab\u00a0improvement of agricultural productivity in Casamance and eastern Senegal\u00a0\u00bb, noted the APS.<\/p>\n

This meeting, entitled \u201cPre-programming of ISRA’s scientific and technical activities\u201d, is initiated by the agricultural research centers of Kolda, Ziguinchor and Tambacounda.<\/p>\n

Focused on the theme \u00ab\u00a0Contribution of agricultural research to the improvement of agricultural productivity in Casamance and Eastern Senegal\u00a0\u00bb, this two-day activity is chaired by the Deputy Governor of Ziguinchor in charge of Development, Sidi Guisse\u0301 Diongue, in presence of agricultural actors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis meeting is organized to take stock of agricultural research in our different areas of intervention. It will make it possible to share the results of agricultural research activities\u201d, explained the director of the agricultural research center of Ziguinchor, Paterne Diatta.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0It is also an opportunity to gather the opinion of technical and financial partners on the technology proposals that we generate\u00a0\u00bb, continued Mr. Diatta.<\/p>\n

He recalled that ISRA intervenes in particular on the improvement of cotton varieties, on cereals (millet, rice and maize). \u201cWe are also working on all issues relating to horticulture as well as animal and fish production,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0In Casamance, all the conditions are met to raise the level of onion production,\u00a0\u00bb said Paterne Diatta by way of example.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecently, we complained about soaring prices on onion. In Casamance, based on our research, we have all the favorable conditions to raise the level of onion and potato production,\u201d assured Paterne Diatta.<\/p>\n

For the regional director of ISRA in Tambacounda, Djibril Badiane, \u201call these speculations that we import, we can cultivate them in Senegal more particularly in Casamance. All you need is the will of each other\u201d.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cSenegal should not have any worries about the various economic and food crises raging in the world,\u201d said Mr. Badiane.<\/p>\n

The regional head of ISRA in Tambacounda pleaded for a \u201creturn to the land\u201d, while inviting citizens to \u201cput the will into it\u201d to develop the agricultural sector \u201cwithout waiting for the State\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have all the potential in Casamance. There are seasoned technicians in Senegal. You just need to have the will to develop our agriculture,\u201d urged Djibril Badiane.<\/p>\n

For his part, the deputy to the governor, Sidi Guisse\u0301 Diongue, magnified this initiative which brings together the research centers of Kolda, Ziguinchor and Tambacounda, allowing actors to work on agricultural research.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Agricultural research makes it possible to find solutions for our agriculture, which is at the heart of Senegal’s agricultural policies\u00a0\u00bb, argued the administrative authority.<\/p>\n
