D&rsquo;un point de vue scientifique, le re\u0301sultat est remarquable: cette approche permet d&rsquo;observer en direct et simultane\u0301ment divers effets lie\u0301s a\u0300 l&rsquo;activite\u0301 solaire et de mieux les comprendre !<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd&rsquo;hui, l&rsquo;Agence spatiale europe\u0301enne (ESA) de\u0301voile une se\u0301rie de quatre images du Soleil, toutes prises le me\u0302me jour par Solar Orbiter, le 22 mars 2023, en observant la me\u0302me re\u0301gion. Cette sonde, e\u0301quipe\u0301e de dix instruments, a e\u0301te\u0301 lance\u0301e en fe\u0301vrier 2020 et suit une orbite elliptique autour du Soleil, avec un pe\u0301rihe\u0301lie situe\u0301 a\u0300 42 millions de kilome\u0300tres et une inclinaison atteignant plus de 30\u00b0 par rapport a\u0300 l&rsquo;e\u0301quateur solaire. Cette configuration lui permet d&rsquo;observer le Soleil avec une re\u0301solution ine\u0301gale\u0301e de 70 kilome\u0300tres par pixel. Avec un diame\u0300tre de 1,4 million de kilome\u0300tres, soit environ 110 fois celui de la Terre, ces images illustrent la performance exceptionnelle des instruments.<\/p>\n<p>Revenons aux images publie\u0301es aujourd&rsquo;hui qui, a\u0300 proprement parler, sont des mosai\u0308ques de 25 images chacune, capture\u0301es sur une pe\u0301riode de plus de quatre heures. Le disque solaire mesure pre\u0300s de 8 000 pixels de diame\u0300tre dans ces mosai\u0308ques comple\u0300tes, re\u0301ve\u0301lant une quantite\u0301 incroyable de de\u0301tails. Pour mieux s&rsquo;en rendre compte, vous pouvez zoomer a\u0300 l&rsquo;inte\u0301rieur de chacune de ces images, en vous focalisant par exemple sur la me\u0302me tache solaire, dans cette petite application.<\/p>\n<p><b>La photosphe\u0300re solaire observe\u0301e a\u0300 la re\u0301solution la plus e\u0301leve\u0301e jamais atteinte<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ces quatre images ont e\u0301te\u0301 re\u0301alise\u0301es a\u0300 partir de deux des 10 instruments a\u0300 bord de Solar Orbiter: l&rsquo;imageur polarime\u0301trique et he\u0301liosismique (PHI), qui fournit des images de la photosphe\u0300re (la surface visible du Soleil) tout en mesurant la direction du champ magne\u0301tique et le mouvement a\u0300 la surface, et l&rsquo;imageur EUI, qui prend des images a\u0300 haute re\u0301solution de l&rsquo;atmosphe\u0300re solaire en lumie\u0300re non visible, c&rsquo;est-a\u0300-dire en ultraviolet extre\u0302me.<\/p>\n<p><b>Des taches solaires observe\u0301es sous diffe\u0301rents points de vue<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Bien que les images pre\u0301sente\u0301es dans cet article soient en faible de\u0301finition, les scientifiques disposent de photos a\u0300 tre\u0300s haute re\u0301solution qui permettent un zoom substantiel sur la surface solaire. Par exemple, un agrandissement de l&rsquo;image capture\u0301e en lumie\u0300re visible par l&rsquo;instrument PHI re\u0301ve\u0300le la \u00ab surface \u00bb du Soleil pour ce qu&rsquo;elle est: un plasma chaud et lumineux, constitue\u0301 de gaz charge\u0301, en mouvement perpe\u0301tuel. Cette couche, qui e\u0301met presque l&rsquo;inte\u0301gralite\u0301 du rayonnement solaire, affiche une tempe\u0301rature variant de 4 500 a\u0300 6 000 \u00b0C. En dessous, le plasma dense est brasse\u0301 au sein de la \u00ab zone de convection \u00bb, rappelant le magma du manteau terrestre. Ce mouvement confe\u0300re a\u0300 la surface du Soleil une texture granuleuse.<\/p>\n<p>Les caracte\u0301ristiques les plus frappantes de ces images sont sans doute les taches solaires. Dans les images en lumie\u0300re visible, elles apparaissent comme des zones sombres, presque comme des trous, dans une surface autrement lisse. Ces taches solaires, qui sont plus froides que leur environnement imme\u0301diat, e\u0301mettent par conse\u0301quent moins de lumie\u0300re.<\/p>\n<p>La carte magne\u0301tique fournie par PHI, ou \u00ab magne\u0301togramme \u00bb, re\u0301ve\u0300le que le champ magne\u0301tique du Soleil s&rsquo;intensifie a\u0300 proximite\u0301 des taches solaires. Ce champ magne\u0301tique se manifeste par des couleurs: il est dirige\u0301 vers l&rsquo;exte\u0301rieur (indique\u0301 en rouge) ou vers l&rsquo;inte\u0301rieur (indique\u0301 en bleu) au niveau des taches. Cette intensite\u0301 magne\u0301tique explique pourquoi le plasma a\u0300 l&rsquo;inte\u0301rieur des taches solaires est plus froid. En effet, la convection qui transporte la chaleur depuis l&rsquo;inte\u0301rieur du Soleil vers sa surface est perturbe\u0301e par des particules charge\u0301es qui empruntent les lignes de champ magne\u0301tique denses, tant a\u0300 l&rsquo;inte\u0301rieur qu&rsquo;autour des taches.<\/p>\n<p>De plus, la carte de vitesse de PHI, e\u0301galement connue sous le nom de \u00ab tachygramme \u00bb, illustre la vitesse et la direction du mouvement de la matie\u0300re a\u0300 la surface du Soleil. Les zones bleues indiquent un mouvement vers le vaisseau spatial, tandis que les zones rouges signalent un mouvement s&rsquo;e\u0301loignant de celui-ci.<\/p>\n<p>Enfin, l&rsquo;image de la couronne solaire capture\u0301e par EUI re\u0301ve\u0300le les phe\u0301nome\u0300nes qui se de\u0301roulent au-dessus de la photosphe\u0300re. Au-dessus des re\u0301gions actives des taches solaires, on observe du plasma brillant s&rsquo;e\u0301lever.
