Africa-Press – Seychelles. Among the activities of the Secretary General of the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) Louise Mushikiwabo and this delegation, was an activity of planting mangroves and vacoa at the Domaine de Val des Près.
This activity named ‘Umuganda’ Francophone – Mon geste pour ma planete’ aims to make the inhabitants of the planet aware of the importance of preserving our environment.
This activity was attended by the member of the National Assembly Kelly Samynadin, the staff of the Administration of the District of Au Cap, children and young people coming out of different schools.
Mme Mushikiwabo was delighted to see the number of children and young people who were displaced for this activity. “We are here at Au Cap today because we must contribute to improving the health of our planet. Human, animal, marine life and the environment in general need us and I am very happy to see two very young people among us. You already have the responsibility of our planet at your age. ‘Umuganda’ means contribution and comes from Rwanda. It’s a Rwandan tradition where we contribute towards the environment. We want to introduce it to the Francophone environment,” said Ms. Mushikiwabo.
She continued in a different way: “The stakes of this gesture cannot be underestimated.” We have the obligation to contribute through a gesture that is linked to the health of our environment due to climate change. There are threats linked to human action and natural phenomena across the world. This gesture is a gesture for the future. As small as this contribution is, it is extremely necessary.
The children and young people dressed in their gloves and boots are dedicated to the planting of mangroves and also took the opportunity to speak with Mme Mushikiwabo in French.
The Secretary General (SG) of the OIF also visited an entrepreneur association that brings together people who make souvenirs, baskets, ballets and others using vacoa and other leaves. It was an activity that had the support of the OIF and the SG will consult with his team in order to help them in the future.
The Secretary General of the Commission Nationale de la Francophonie aux Seychelles, Ms. Miera Savy, the National Correspondent of the OIF for the Seychelles, Mr. Ralph Agrippine, the representative for the Indian Ocean of the International Organization of the Francophonie, M Léonard-Emile Ognimba; the director of the Cabinet of the Secretary General, M.
