Africa-Press – Seychelles. In commemoration of the International Day of Peace tomorrow, Wednesday September 21, well known local poet, Tony Joubert, aka ‘Raspyek’, will be holding a ‘Live Poetry Show’ on Saturday September 24 at the National Theatre.
The poetry show entitled ‘Dealing with Peace’ has been organised in close collaboration with the International Day of Peace Committee (IDPC) and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and the Family.
Apart from reciting poems from his first poetry musical albums ‘POETIK’ released in 2011 and ‘SARET LITERER’ released in 2017, the artist will also reveal to fans some of his new releases.
He will be accompanied by the ‘Droppers band’.
Performing alongside ‘Raspyek’ will be poets Stephanie Joubert, Reuban Lespoir, Loura Barra, Vincent Milius, Terrence Madeleine, Michel Savy and Hubert Inande, including his companion, Anila Bonne.
The show will also feature popular artists Mercenary and Isham, and poet/singer Damasy, who will accompany him in some of his recitals.
There will also be performances by ‘Zanfan Bling Bling’, a youth group associated with the Bling Bling Poetry Association.
The show will kick off with the launch of the ‘Peace Ambassadors Project’ by the Family department in collaboration with the IDPC. It is a project whereby the youths will be trained in various fields and eventually graduate as peace ambassadors.
It will target pupils from Primary 5-Primary 6 and Secondary 1-Secondary 5 students so that they become agents of peace. Additionally, the project will support the fight against all forms of violence in the country.
The aim of the project is to get the youths to be more resilient and responsible, practice peace and non-violence, create a safe and peaceful environment where one can be fulfilled and empowered, encourage other people to be agents of peace, and to bring down the number of violent acts in schools and communities.
Tickets for the show is R200 and they are available for immediate purchase at partners, Alliance Française and Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps).
Fans can also contact the author on 2500348 for tickets.
Speaking to Seychelles NATION on the show on Saturday, ‘Raspyek’ said that to celebrate 33 years of writing poems and 20 years as a performing artist, he had planned to stage it in 2020 during the FetAfrik, and after planned to stage it in January 2021, but he failed on both occasions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said that launching of the ‘Peace Ambassadors Project’ in the show falls in line with his poetry styles and also as a Rastafarian, who preaches peace and love, political and social injustice and social ills affecting the world over.
He said that the surprise will be a performance by one of his fans who will impersonate him, but that he would let the public discover him and his talent during the show.
‘Raspyek’ is calling on his fans to come in numbers to the show, in support of poetry and the young peace ambassadors, and that they will not be disappointed.
He added that the show will be a benchmark to gauge how people in Seychelles think and value poetry.
