Africa-Press – Seychelles. Mgr Paolo Rocco Gualtieri paid a farewell visit to the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, yesterday. He was accompanied by the bishop of Port Victoria Alain Harel at the State House.
Monsignor Paolo Rocco Gualtieri is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See.
In 2015, Pope Francis named him titular archbishop of Sagone and Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar. He received this episcopal consecration from the hands of Cardinal Pietro Parolin on May 30 of the same year.
Pope Francis increased his responsibilities during the year by appointing apostolic nuncio to Seychelles on September 26, apostolic nuncio to Mauritius on October 24 and apostolic delegate to the Comoros with the same responsibility for Reunion on November 13.
In a small interview with the press, after this visit, Mgr Gualtieri emphasized that working with the islands of the Indian Ocean was a beautiful and enriching experience. “I thank the president for the good relations between the Holy See, the Vatican and the State of Seychelles. I also congratulate him for the policy of cooperation between the islands of the Indian Ocean and also for the good governance of the country, the independence of the judiciary and the fight against corruption. The Catholic Church can collaborate with the Seychellois authorities in different areas such as youth education and environmental education,” said Mgr Gualtieri.
After his mandate with the islands of the Indian Ocean, on August 6, 2022, Pope Francis named him apostolic nuncio to Peru.
