Africa-Press – Seychelles. The construction work on the new Anse Royale church, which has been stopped for about 6 months, is expected to resume soon. The Ministry of Education and its partners are working to solve all the problems associated with this project and have placed it under the responsibility of the Infrastructure Agency. Seychelles to supervise, even if Minister Justin Vakentin is not able to be in the Assembly to give a time frame when this project will be completed.

Following a question by a member of the Assembly for Anse Royale Sylvanne Lemiel who wanted to know what problems or constraints the Ministry of Education is facing in order to finish this project, Minister Valentin gave the Assembly a statement on this project.

He recalled that the contract to build the new Anse Royale church was signed on September 16, 2019 and the contractor was supposed to complete the project in March 2021.

“It’s been about 6 months since the construction work on this project was stopped, but the contractor still has responsibility and access to the site,” Minister Valentin said.

He says that after the contractor was mobilized and entered the site, there were certain variations that were necessary to make but that the project team and the contractor did not foresee and that included the reinforcement of the foundation and as a result there are more materials that we are served. Unfortunately, during this same period, Covid-19 came and there was a significant increase in the price of construction materials. The contractor made a request to review the course of this project and received approximately 2.13 million rupees to cover the increase in the price of materials. He then asked for compensation for the variations that were made on this construction.

Minister Valentin said that the procurement section did not necessarily agree with the amount that he was asking for and there is a back and forth to reach a conclusion.

At this time, a reevaluation is being done to determine the course of the variations that the contractor is asking for.

According to Minister Valentin, the estimates of the technicians say that 85% of the work on this project has been completed, but the contractor cannot complete the work because the budget voted for this project has ended.

But the Minister said that now all the parties involved are collaborating so that the work is completed so that the Anse Royale school will have its modern church very soon.

But even if Honorable Lemiel asked the minister about the originality of the project, he did not get a clear answer and the minister could not tell him how long it would take to complete the project so that the old church would be demolished to make room for the children. play and do other recreational activities.

The Minister rather said that they were also working for this project to end, especially the one that has been transferred to the Infrastructure Agency, which is in a better position to direct its continuation.
